Welcome to the Wrongdoing Hotline

THE WRONGDOING HOTLINE

The City of Greater Sudbury provides a convenient and confidential way for members of the public and its employees and contractors to report suspicion or proof of wrongdoing, defined as any kind of activity that could be deemed illegal, dishonest, wasteful or a deliberate violation of city policy. Employees and contractors of the City of Greater Sudbury may use the hotline without fear of reprisal under Whistleblower policy of the city’s employee handbook.

THE CITY'S 311 CENTRE

Residents who require assistance or have general questions or complaints about City services such as waste collection, snow plowing and Bylaw Services or other programs should contact the City’s 3-1-1 Call Centre for resolution.

COMPLAINT RESOLUTION FOR CITY EMPLOYEES

The hotline should not be used by City staff to address workplace issues unless they continue to be unresolved after being brought to the attention of their immediate supervisor. Before filing a complaint, staff is encouraged to consult with union representatives to determine if the grievance process or another internal reporting mechanism should be used to resolve workplace issues such as health and safety concerns or the prevention of workplace violence, harassment and discrimination.

WHO CAN BE INVESTIGATED?

Complaints may be filed regarding City of Greater Sudbury employees, management, contractors and political office staff. Agencies, Boards and wholly-owned corporations of the City of Greater Sudbury are not included in the city’s complaint resolution process. Please contact these organizations directly with your complaint: Greater Sudbury Public Library Board, Greater Sudbury Police Services Board, Downtown Sudbury Business Improvement Area Board, Flour Mill Business Improvement Area Board, Sudbury & District Health Unit, Greater Sudbury Utilities Inc., Greater Sudbury Development Corporation, Greater Sudbury Housing Corporation and Sudbury Airport Community Development Corporation.

Complaints about the Mayor or Members of Council should be filed directly to the City's Integrity Commissioner as outlined on the following web page: https://www.greatersudbury.ca/city-hall/report-it/wrongdoing-hotline/.

CONFIDENTIAL AND ANONYMOUS

The Wrongdoing Hotline is a confidential and anonymous service that allows you to report incidents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Hotline is independently operated by third parties and is accessible by phone or Internet. You are not required to provide your name or any other personal information when submitting a report of suspected wrongdoing or other inappropriate activities. Complainants have the option of submitting their name and personal contact information if they wish to meet with staff conducting the investigation. In some cases, it may not be possible to further the investigation without asking the complainant for consent to being identified.

STRENGTHENING OUR COMMITMENT TO OPEN GOVERNMENT

The Wrongdoing Hotline affirms Greater Sudbury’s commitment to Open Government, a movement that is endorsed by all levels of government to move accountability and transparency to a higher and more comprehensive level. One of the themes of Open Government is Open Doors, which ensures that measures or plans are in place for the accountability and oversight of government actions.
